President’s Day, officially Washington’s Birthday, is a federal holiday celebrated every year on the third Monday of February to honor George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and also all the Presidents of the country. In 1971, President Nixon combined Lincoln and Washington’s birthdays into Presidents’ Day, a federal holiday.

Abraham Lincoln (12th February, 1809 – 15th April, 1865): He was born in a very poor family and struggled a lot to obtain his basic education. By virtue of his hard work and dedication he became the 16th president of the United States. Much like Independence Day, people traditionally see Presidents’ Day as a time to celebrate and remember their patriotism.

Washington’s Birthday gained significance during the Great Depression with frequent portraits of George Washington on February 22. In 1932, the date was used to reinstate the Purple Heart, a military decoration originally created by George Washington to honor soldiers killed or wounded while serving in the armed forces. Patriotic groups and the Boy Scouts of America also held celebrations on the day, and in 1938 some 5,000 people attended mass at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City in honor of Washington.
