The Clergy Sexual Abuse Scandal of 1991: What can we learn and DCF Involvement?

Hello, and thanks for joining me. My name is Kevin Seaver and I am an experienced trusted lawyer since 1991, successfully representing clients against the Department of Children and Families, more commonly referred to as DCF throughout the entire Commonwealth of Massachusetts in court or out of court, turning negatives into positives. In 2001, the Boston Globe and the spotlight team did a series on clergy sexual abuse, which became an award-winning and a few years ago it was made into a movie, an academy award winning movie all about the sexual abuse in Massachusetts. We thought that perhaps we have heard the end of that, but not so fast.

In Pennsylvania and California they are now experiencing what we experienced back in 1991. Clergy sexual abuse is raised as an ugly head big time. A subpoena in California revealed that over 50 priests and children has been sexually abused and that number is going to grow, there is no question about it. Same thing in Pennsylvania, big time trouble. With this sexual abuse in Massachusetts what came out of it were numerous things including that now priests are mandated reporters, that if they fail to report to DCF suspicion of sexual abuse or physical abuse or neglect they can be fined and put in jail. But have we gone far enough?

That remain has not been seen. But one thing that is clear is that this is not going away anytime soon. And there is nothing worse than sexual abuse allegations of a child that has been sexually abused or has been damaged beyond belief, devastated and there may not be enough therapy in the world, to cure, or make a child whole who has been sexually abused. That’s how devastating this can be to a child. With that said there are things that are abundantly clear that there are some false allegations of sexual abuse and what do you do with them? When you’re involved with DCF, when they file an investigation, and they support an allegation against you, call me, call Kevin Seaver at (617) 263-2633. We can help. Thank you.

    Barbara Joy Hansen says:

I exposed the elderly clergy in 1999 who sexually assaulted me in a sex abuse case with 3 adult survivor pastor’s daughter’s. A Committee of Discipline was set up for him & Committee of Restoration for us. It was by far the most difficult experience of my life but moved me forward in facing him after 40 years of severe PTSD! Six pastor’s & a psychologist led us through this experience which is all documented in my memoir.
