As a senior at UMass Boston, I had invaluable insight while working at the Law Office of Kevin Seaver for the fall semester of 2023. It was the best decision I made. I was engaged from start to finish and it was an exciting experience. I enjoyed the interaction I had with Mr. Seaver and the staff, they valued and respected my opinions, and I felt appreciated. I enjoyed taking the case and breaking down DCF 51A and 51B Reports of child abuse while numbering, Reports that were supported and unsupported, learning the process of the cases and understanding DCF, who they are, what they do, and how to be successful in helping the family who has DCF in their lives. I learned how cases are reported by mandated and non-mandated, understanding how 51A is made and it either becomes an emergency response or a non-emergency response that takes 5 days or 15 days to get investigated to make a 51B. The staff helped me understand the process of a… and YouTube. I assisted in organizing the office files and keeping the office running smoothly. Assisted meeting with clients with Mr. Seaver and staff which helped me develop an agenda on how to run a meeting. I assisted in helping with documentation and developing a case, and in the client’s journey, I did various research on projects, both clients and on DCF Researching licensed experts and witnesses, if they were licensed, and getting their background checks to help our clients. It was a great privilege working with Mr. Seaver. The Internship wasn’t long enough and there was much more to learn. Mr. Seaver is an outstanding attorney who cares about family, and I appreciate every advice and guidance he has given me to become more confident in becoming a lawyer. He encouraged me and will be part of my journey through law school. This opportunity has not only enhanced my understanding of family law but also helped me pursue my career in this field of law.

Never thought we would ever have to deal with DCF – then a false claim and over-zealous parents changed that for us. Suddenly we were told DCF would be knocking on our door in 20 minutes. We didn’t know what to do. Everything escalated very quickly, and within two hours of being notified of the issue, we were informed that DCF would be knocking on our door in 20 minutes. Still reeling from the initial realization and shock of what our family was about to be put through, we called Attorney Seaver for help. Update given the ultimate conclusion of our case:
Unfortunately, I had to deal with a patently wrong finding of emotional neglect of one of my 3 children from DCF. DCF didn’t do any real homework or research before issuing their patently false finding. I called Kevin Seaver – the best DCF lawyer in the state of Massachusetts because I knew I couldn’t afford NOT to get the best talent there is. My reputation and my family’s well-being were on the line!
Attorney Seaver did the following for us expertly:
1. listened to our entire story
2. intervened with DCF and took the pressure off our family
3. Participated in all of DCF home visits and then got DCF to quickly close their assessment, with no findings or recommendations
4. Prepared us for the fair hearing (our forum to appeal the initial neglect finding). This involved interviews, research, and case preparation.
5. lined up experts to meet with our family and do the real homework that DCF never did to provide clinical insight and additional credibility to our case.
6. Represented us at the fair hearing expertly. Cross-examined DCF like a pro. Their case crumbled on the spot!!
It took about 6 months for DCF to review and formally respond but they ultimately reversed the finding of neglect and cleared my name! I was 100 percent satisfied!

Attorney Seaver helped me regain my confidence quickly and began to lay out the strategy from beginning to end – starting with an immediate appeal and culminating in a fair hearing.
While I may not know the outcome of the hearing for some time, I do know Attorney Seaver and his team did everything they could to advocate for me and created a very detailed and strong case. I slept well at night knowing we did all we could to fight for what was right and to protect my reputation.

When I was faced with false allegations of child neglect, I was very uneducated about DCF and its process. I didn’t realize how detrimental it was to not have a lawyer. After the 15-day investigation, DCF supported the false claims. It was a shock to both my husband and I. It was by then I was finally reading and educating myself about DCF, but it almost seemed like the damage was done, and realized very quickly what a nightmare this had become. A supported claim of neglect is not good and DCF can support a claim with little to no evidence even when your children are well cared for. It was a very scary place to find myself in. This guy and his staff are the best.
